Here’s the extended play of what we discussed on Tuesday October 27.

In this presentation, I will elaborate on a number of points that I believe are key to a successful proposal for funding. Again, this is not intended to be comprehensive (indeed, there is no way that it can be in a one-day workshop). The goal is to provide participants with a list of tools/resources that will help them get started down the right road to successful grant applications.

I will say this from the start: Nothing beats experience. I can spout my 10+ years of grantwriting wisdom, and I believe that a good deal of it is quite useful. But, at the end of the day, all that wisdom and something to write with are not going to write the grant proposal – that’s your job. It may seem awkward at first (enough to drive you to all sorts of strange procrastination activities), but the more you do this, the greater your comfort level.

This posting is for the brief session I will present on Tuesday October 27th.

The purpose of this presentation is to quickly discuss what I believe are the key things to keep in mind as you are planning the grant writing process. These 8 items are not necessarily the primary pieces of the grant; i.e. you will note that I don’t talk about methodology, PIs, budgets, or grants.gov. What I do talk about are those things that I believe help put an application over the top (or, at the very least, keep it from being tossed out in the first go-round).
